Yellow Assessor
Bright yellow with forked tail. Dorsal and anal fins lined with orange. Pale orange line through eye. Sometimes seen swimming upside-down due to their preferred habitat – caves and ledges – where they orient to ceilings. Confirm captive-bred status, most are still wild-caught.

Potter’s Angelfish
Deep orange on head, back and varying amounts on belly; transitioning to deep blue/black from head to tail. Entire body overlaid with irregular narrow gray/blue bars. Flame Angelfish
Bright red to red orange with 5 – 6 thick black bars. Rear edge of fins deep blue to purple. Capable of being bred in captivity but rarely available. Therefore, the Flame Angelfish currently gets a “Bad Fish” rating.

Coral Beauty Angelfish
Red/orange base with numerous narrow blue/purple bars. Head and fins deep blue to purple. Obvious blue cheek spine. One of the top 20 U.S. imports of marine aquarium fish. Many Coral Beauty Angelfish are captured with cyanide. Captive-bred Coral Beauty Angelfishes are available from Biota.

Blue Ring Angelfish
Young with deep blue to black body, white to blue narrow bars and white tail. Becoming brown with diagonal blue stripes and white/blue tail as adults. Though captive-bred young in the 1″ – 2″ range are available, their adult size of 18″ makes the Blue Ring Angelfish unsuitable for the hobby.

Bicolor Angelfish
Bright yellow head to mid-body with deep blue saddle across nape; rear half deep blue with bright yellow tail. Many of these beauties are likely captured with cyanide, an illegal practice harming both fish and reefs. Some aquaculture success has been achieved at the experimental level only.

Asfur Angelfish
Young with deep blue to black body and bright blue fins, except for yellow tail. Skinny electric blue and cobalt bars throughout. Broad yellow bar appears mid-body with age, body turns deep blue/purple, and yellow tail brightens.
